Healthy Snacks for your Teeth
Sugary foods such as sweets and fizzy drinks contribute to tooth decay.
Replacing these types of snacks with healthier options will not only
improve your diet but also the health of your mouth.
Some examples of healthier snacks include:
• Cheese
• Apples
• Yogurts
• Carrots
• Celery
• Bananas
• Nuts
Cheese contains calcium and protein which are nutrients that strengthen tooth enamel.
Whilst eating an apple the mouth produces a lot of saliva which
rinses away bacteria and food particles. Apples are high in fibre and
water.
Yogurt is also high in protein and calcium like cheese. The beneficial
bacteria (probiotics) found in yogurt also assists in the health of your
gums as the good bacteria forces out the bacteria which causes
cavities. Be sure to choose a plain yogurt with no added sugar.
Carrots and celery are similar to apples in that they are high in fibre
and increase the production of saliva in the mouth, reducing the risk of
tooth decay. Carrots are also a great source of vitamin A.
