Teeth Whitening
Tooth Whitening is a very common procedure used in dentistry to cosmetically enhance your smile.
Although there are many options available for whitening your teeth
such as over the counter products, treatments supervised by a dentist
remain the most recommended way to lighten discoloured teeth.
Common Reasons why teeth may become stained or slightly yellow in colour could be through:
- Smoking
- Drinking tea, coffee, red wine or other dark coloured liquids
- Not taking proper care of your teeth & oral hygiene
- Age
How it works
The whitening agents used are usually carbamide peroxide
or hydrogen peroxide which passes through the enamel reaching the
molecules inside your tooth that are discoloured.
These whitening agents mentioned above set off a reaction that breaks
the bonds between your tooth and the staining compounds present.
