Dental Implants
A dental implant is a surgical component that is put in place to support a defect inside the mouth such as a missing tooth.
Dental Implants have a strong purpose in that, if a tooth is lost, the structures of bone around the gap will begin to recede. Also, the remaining teeth either side of the gap may begin to move and long term this could cause avoidable complications for your oral health. Therefore, dental implants are put in place to help maintain the bone structure and improve the stability of the remaining teeth around it.
How do dental implants work?
Dental Implants are placed in the bone of the jaw and they bond together with your natural bone.
The implant fixture is placed first then after some time to allow it to bond with the bone and heal fully, a dental prosthetic is added such as a crown or a bridge.
There are many benefits to having a dental implant when you lose a tooth such as:
• They recover your appearance as they look just like your natural teeth
• Improvement of speech
• Eating will become easier again
• Comfort
• A boost of self-esteem
• They are extremely durable
Of course to benefit from a successful, long-term implant, regular dental visits are required as well as maintaining strict oral hygiene.
