Foods to have after an extraction

What to eat after an extraction

Once you’ve scheduled the surgery, you might wonder what to eat after a tooth extraction. As you might expect, soft foods are ideal during the first few days of recovery.

WHAT TO EAT:

Unless you have particularly sensitive teeth, ice cream tops the list of what to eat after an extraction. It’s cool and soft so you can eat it comfortably even when your mouth is tender. Because ice cream is cold it can help minimise any natural swellings that occur in the mouth. Soft serve is ideal right after surgery as itdoesn’t require as much jaw muscle to eat.

Eat cool soups. Pureed, lukewarm or cool soups are also great to eat after a tooth’s removal.

Fruit smoothies blended with yoghurt for added protein, calcium and probiotics are a good idea after an extraction.

Scrambled eggs are also a good meal as they are also high in protein and don’t require much effort in the way of chewing.

Avoid spicy foods and acidic foods. Crunchy foods should also be avoided as they can break off and bits of them can get stuck in the socket .

Follow your after extraction  care instructions  given to you by your dentist.
